Thirty years of violent conflict in Northern Ireland between those who wanted it to remain part of the United Kingdom and those who want it to be part of a united Ireland – known as “The Troubles” – ended with The Good Friday Agreement of 1998.
 
This agreement established that Northern Ireland’s future would be determined by the will of people, measured through a “border poll,” but did not spell out precisely how a referendum would happen. Join us on Feb 3 at 1 p.m. EST, as members of the Working Group on Unification Referendums on the Island of Ireland from the Constitution Unit at University College London present their interim report on how to map out and assess ways to hold a referendum in Northern Ireland and conform to standard democratic criteria and the Good Friday Agreement.
