Remembering 9/11: The View from D.C. and AU

A live streamed event. Advance registration required.

20 years after 9/11, the recollections of many who lived through that day are still fresh. While the fall of the World Trade Towers in New York City is the indelible image of the day, Washington, D.C. and the surrounding area was another focus of the plot, from the attack on the Pentagon to potential attacks on Capitol Hill and the White House.

Hear from SPA faculty and former students who were in Washington, D.C. that day, working in the White House, on the Hill, in media, and on AU’s campus, and understand how their recollections of the day inform their views today.

Featured speakers:

- Anita McBride, Director, First Ladies Institute, SPA; Board Member, Sine Institute of Policy & Politics; Senior Advisor to the U.S. Secretary of State (2001-2003).

- David Malet, Associate Professor, SPA; Research Assistant for National Security to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (2000-03)

- Jason Benkendorf, Executive Director, AU Hillel; SPA/BA '04

This event is co-sponsored by The Sine Institute of Policy & Politics and Women & Politics Institute. The program will be moderated by Betsy Fischer Martin, Executive Director of the Women & Politics Institute and Executive in Residence in the Department of Government at American University's School of Public Affairs, former executive producer of NBC's Meet the Press.
